Half-minute History: The Battle for New York

From Mike: As we get back into the swing of things, we’re starting off today (with a rare Tuesday post!) with a new segment that we’ll rotate in occasionally: Half-Minute History. In  each installment of Half-Minute History the goal is to give you a bit of history that you can learn in 30 seconds or less, and then try to relate a laser tag strategy lesson to the snippet of history. Enjoy!

In the entire American Revolution there was only one full-scale battle fought, and not only was it the first battle overall, but it was also the biggest loss for our side. George Washington lost miserably but thankfully the lessons he learned allowed him to be far more successful than in the Battle for New York City. Continue reading

Violence, Laser Tag, and Combat Sports

While this is coming a bit late, we do want to take a moment to respond to concerns that might arise in the wake of recent shootings, primarily those at schools.

It is not uncommon for us to receive questions about violence and school shootings in connection with our sport. Could a school shooter learn how to do what he wants from playing with us? Do we encourage a violent perspective? These questions are valid and welcome; we love to have the chance to discuss this topic! Continue reading

…but first, an important announcement!

Sorry for the missing posts recently. Mike and his family welcomed a new baby to the crew this last Tuesday. The future-team-leader weighed in at a whopping 9lbs 13 oz and was 22.5″ long! (Both mom and baby are doing great!) Regular posts will resume shortly as Mike manages to pull himself away from family duties. Thanks for your patience.

Welcome!

While you’re certainly welcome to read this blog from the very beginning, this blog in part supplants the older article style I had on the old version of the site. You’ll notice that the next many posts are just reposts of the articles from the old format. While you’ll certainly see everything it may or may not be in a clear or sensible order.

If I might suggest, you should probably use the tag cloud over on the right (all the words in funny sizes) to find a topic that you find interesting. Alternately, most of these articles are at least recollected on topically relevant pages. Try the buttons on the top, particularly in the Tactics section.

Finally, please be aware that many of these posts were backdated, though not necessarily to accurate dates. This blog-ified version of the site was posted in October 2012.

Oh, and don’t forget that the only thing better than reading about Mike’s Combat Games is playing Mike’s Combat Games!
