Q: Is the Battlefield Live system used by Mike’s Combat Games safe?
Absolutely! The gaming guns only shoot infrared light. This is actually the same light that comes out of your TV remote. Admittedly, our gear projects that infrared light a bit brighter than your remote, but infrared light is completely safe for the eyes. Even though it’s called “laser tag” the guns don’t actually shoot lasers. The beams are simply infrared light that is focused with a lens to give you the range that makes play so unique and exciting.
Our gaming guns do not shoot any projectile and can’t be modified to shoot a projectile. This, combined with the fact that the guns only shoot infrared light, is why you don’t need any safety gear when playing with Mike’s Combat Games.
All of this said, we do occasionally see minor injuries on the field, so how does that happen? Well, we allow you to run. We use both outdoor and indoor locations that occasionally have uneven ground or factors that we can’t control, like people passing through. People sometimes forget to look where they’re going. Sometimes folks will run into each other, into rocks or trees or walls, trip on a curb, etc. Minor abrasions are our most common injury. We have never had an injury (with more than 10 thousand players so far!) that required someone to stop playing. We go over safety (and a few basic safety rules) at every session and we highlight potential hazards in or near the play area. All of this has added up to give us an incredible record for safety. In fact, we have more players who decline any treatment for an injury than even ask for a band-aid! (Folks have this remarkable tendency to think of them as battle scars to show off to their friends and teammates.)
